HighLevel has come a long way with its Courses feature, transforming from a basic offering into a robust platform capable of delivering professional courses. This walkthrough takes you through the ins and outs of HighLevel’s course-building tools, from setup to customization, and highlights why it’s worth considering for your business’ course platform.

Why Consider HighLevel for Courses?
HighLevel’s Courses feature integrates seamlessly with its Client Portal, offering a centralized hub for members and students. It eliminates the need for multiple tools by combining course creation, memberships, and client management into one ecosystem. Compared to standalone course platforms like Kajabi, HighLevel offers exceptional value as part of its broader subscription.
Setting Up Your HighLevel Course
1. Navigating to the Courses Section
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend you start by reviewing my tutorial for setting up the Client Portal in HighLevel.
Begin by accessing the Memberships → Courses section in HighLevel. Here, you’ll find an overview of key metrics, such as member activity, sales, and opt-ins. While this dashboard is useful, the real work begins in the Course Settings tab.
2. Course Settings
Before creating your course, take a moment to configure the foundational settings:
- Site Details: Customize your site title, logo, favicon, and domain settings to match your branding.
- Builder Settings: Adjust features like video download permissions. For instance, disabling video downloads is recommended to maintain control over your content.
- Custom Code: Add JavaScript or CSS for advanced customizations.
Creating a Course
Step 1: Create a Product
In HighLevel, courses are treated as products. Start by selecting a predefined course template (e.g., Sprint or Marathon) or build your course from scratch. Templates provide pre-structured modules and lessons, which you can easily modify.
Step 2: Customizing Course Details
Once your course is created, you can fine-tune its details:
- Title and Description: Add a course title and brief overview.
- Thumbnail: Upload a 16:9 image (e.g., 1280×720 resolution) to represent your course visually.
- Instructor Info: Customize the instructor name and add a profile image.
Step 3: Course Layout
HighLevel offers multiple layout options, including Classic, Neo Classic, and Neue York. I personally prefer the Classic layout for its clean and intuitive design, reminiscent of platforms like Kajabi.
In the layout editor, you can:
- Adjust primary and secondary colors.
- Select fonts (e.g., Roboto, Open Sans).
- Customize headers, progress bars, and buttons.
- Create themes to re-use throughout other courses and sections of the same course.
Building Course Content
1. Modules and Lessons
Use the Product Structure tab to create modules and lessons. Modules act as categories, while lessons house the actual content. Each lesson can include:
- Videos: Upload directly to HighLevel (up to 4GB per file).
- Thumbnails: Add unique visuals for each lesson’s video.
- Text Content: Use the WYSIWYG editor to add descriptions, resources, and links.
2. Assessments
HighLevel supports two types of assessments:
- Assignments: Allow users to submit text, files, or videos for review.
- Quizzes: Include multiple-choice questions, pass/fail criteria, and custom feedback.
Monetizing Your Courses
Offers
To sell your courses, create offers in the Courses section. Offers can bundle courses and define pricing structures. Key features include:
- Free or Paid: Offers can be free (ideal for lead magnets) or paid using Stripe integration.
- Access Controls: Set start dates, expiration periods, and access limits.
- Upsells: Add one-click upsells or in-app upsells to encourage additional purchases.
Checkout Customization
HighLevel’s checkout editor allows for modest customization:
- Collect additional user information (e.g., phone numbers).
- Add service agreements.
- Embed videos or banners to enhance the checkout experience.
I personally recommend selling your courses through funnels instead, and creating a workflow automation to grant access to the course content upon purchase.
Student Experience
From the client portal, students can:
- Access their library of courses.
- View lesson progress and mark lessons as complete.
- Download certificates upon course completion (if enabled).
The portal’s intuitive navigation and modern design provide a polished experience for end users.
Final Thoughts
HighLevel is a compelling choice for a course platform, particularly if you’re already using its other features. Courses truly shine on this platform when combined with the communities feature, though, which I go over in more detail in my walkthrough of HighLevel’s community features. Combining courses as a “learning” component of a community really highlights how these features are meant to work together.
