I've been using ThriveCart since 2017. I was one of the original 15 ThriveCart Certified Experts. I watched it nearly collapse and I watched it come back. Here's my current, honest take.
I've had a longer relationship with ThriveCart than most people in this space. I was using it before most people knew what it was, I was processing serious client volume through it when things got rocky, and I was one of the people who had to stop recommending it during the dark years — and then had to reconsider when it stabilized.
That history matters because my take on ThriveCart is not a 90-day review. It's eight years of watching a platform go through founder departure, multiple ownership changes, a genuinely bad stretch, a recovery, and now a significant product expansion with ThriveCart Academy.
ThriveCart is a checkout and funnel platform. At its core, it takes the complexity of building a Stripe checkout, adding order bumps and upsells, managing affiliates, and handling subscription billing — and packages all of that into a relatively simple SaaS interface. You don't need to be technical to use it. You don't need plugins or custom code.
That's been ThriveCart's value proposition since 2017, when I first started using it. Back then it was a one-time lifetime deal that felt almost too good to be true — and for a long time it was genuinely one of the best deals in the software space.
The platform went through a genuinely difficult period after the original creator sold it. It changed hands multiple times. The original codebase was a mess and each ownership transition created new problems — downtime became frequent, Stripe connectivity was unreliable, support essentially disappeared for extended stretches, and people who had been loyal users were jumping ship.
During that period I stopped recommending ThriveCart. Outright. If someone asked me whether to buy ThriveCart during those years, I said no.
The new ownership has made two significant moves. First, they transitioned ThriveCart from a pure lifetime deal to a hybrid model — the base tiers are still one-time fees, but the upper plans now carry an annual renewal at year two. Second, they're building ThriveCart Academy, which puts ThriveCart in direct competition with Circle and Skool for the first time.
ThriveCart's pricing is one of its most distinctive features — and also one of its most confusing, so let me break it down plainly. One-time fees for the core platform, annual renewal from year two on the upper tiers, and ThriveCart Academy priced separately as a monthly subscription.
More capable than most people assume. Standard includes unlimited products and funnels, unlimited bump offers and upsells, 1-click upsells and downsells, A/B split testing, abandon cart recovery, and subscription billing.
What Standard is missing: affiliate management, multiple order bumps, custom branding and domains, subscription dunning, and advanced revenue tools. If you don't need an affiliate program, Standard is a solid starting point.
Everything in Standard, plus the features most serious sellers need. The affiliate center alone justifies the upgrade. Year-2 renewal at $295/year works out to roughly $24/month — still a good deal.
Everything in Pro+, plus ThriveCart Learn+. Here's the complication: Learn and Learn+ are being deprecated and replaced by ThriveCart Academy — a separate subscription. If you're buying this tier for the course platform, factor in that you may end up paying for Academy separately regardless.
Both are now deprecated and will not receive further updates. ThriveCart Academy is the replacement — it's a substantially different and more capable product. I won't cover Learn or Learn+ in depth here because they're not what you're buying into anymore.
ThriveCart Academy is ThriveCart's new community and course platform — launched in 2026 to replace ThriveCart Learn. It's priced separately from the core ThriveCart platform and puts ThriveCart in direct competition with Circle and Skool. The pricing and plan structure is worth spending real time on, because it's more complex at first glance than it needs to be.
Here's what $30 buys you when you go from Growth to Scale: unlimited members (vs. 10,000), white-label branding, multiple branded communities, unlimited video storage (vs. 500 GB), 4K streaming, advanced video analytics, AI analytics, a conversational AI tutor, team and multi-admin access, a dedicated account manager, and early access to new features.
For $30 per month. If you're taking ThriveCart Academy seriously as a community platform for your business, Scale is the obvious choice. The value jump from Growth to Scale is dramatically larger than the price jump.
The cleaner version of this pricing would have been two plans: a basic plan without white-labeling and a full-featured plan with everything. Growth exists as a price anchor to make the $97 Scale plan feel reasonable by comparison. ThriveCart is doing what every SaaS company does with three-tier pricing — using the middle plan to validate the top tier.

ThriveCart favors simplicity above all else. That's its greatest strength and its most meaningful limitation depending on what you need.
ThriveCart is the most approachable checkout platform in its category. Connect Stripe, build your product, and your checkout with upsells and affiliates is running in an afternoon.
ThriveCart favors beginners more than any comparable platform without sacrificing the features experienced sellers need. Simplified by design, capable for everyone.
ThriveCart's affiliate center is one of its genuine strengths. Setting up an affiliate program, managing commissions, and processing payouts is cleaner here than in most alternatives at this price point.
ThriveCart Academy's native integration between your checkout, affiliates, and community is a real advantage no third-party connection can replicate.
Even with the year-2 renewal on Pro+ and Ultimate, the math often favors ThriveCart vs. a monthly SaaS — especially at Pro+ where $790 + $295/yr amortizes to roughly $24/month.
ThriveCart is an off-the-shelf solution. That's what makes it simple, and it's also what limits it. If you need to customize the checkout experience significantly, you'll hit ThriveCart's rigidity in ways HighLevel would let you work around.
ThriveCart is a checkout and funnel platform. It has no CRM, email marketing, SMS, phone system, or reputation management. If you need those things alongside checkout, HighLevel is the more economical and comprehensive choice.
SureCart is a more natural fit for the WordPress ecosystem — deeply integrated, no separate SaaS platform to manage alongside your site.
If your business is primarily built around the community experience, Circle is a more mature and polished platform. ThriveCart Academy is still early and Circle has a five-year head start on community-first features.
Three comparisons worth making, each with a meaningfully different answer.
SureCart does most of what ThriveCart does on the checkout and subscription side, but it's a WordPress plugin. That introduces all the complexity of WordPress hosting, security, updates, and plugin compatibility. If you're already running a WordPress site and want a checkout solution that integrates natively, SureCart is worth serious consideration.
If you're not on WordPress, SureCart isn't really in the conversation. ThriveCart as a standalone SaaS is meaningfully simpler to set up and maintain.
SureCart also doesn't have a community or course platform equivalent to ThriveCart Academy — so if that's part of your evaluation, it's not a like-for-like comparison.
HighLevel can do everything ThriveCart does on the checkout and funnel side — plus CRM, email marketing, SMS, funnels, a phone system, and reputation management. HighLevel is the more comprehensive platform.
The math is also interesting. ThriveCart Pro+ at $790 upfront plus $295/year from year two amortizes to roughly $24/month. HighLevel starts at $97/month. If you purely need checkout and funnels, ThriveCart may be more economical over time.
The key distinction is simplicity. For beginners who only need e-commerce and funnels: ThriveCart. For anyone who needs CRM, email, or broader marketing automation: HighLevel.
Stripe is the payment processor that ThriveCart is built on top of. Comparing ThriveCart to Stripe is like comparing a built house to the lumber yard. Stripe handles the actual payment infrastructure. ThriveCart provides the checkout experience, the funnel builder, the affiliate management, and everything else that goes around the payment itself.
If you're asking "should I just use Stripe directly instead of ThriveCart" — Stripe directly requires custom development to build a comparable checkout experience. ThriveCart gives you that ready to use. They're not competing for the same job.
Four platforms that come up constantly in the same conversations. I use or have used all of them. Here's the honest side-by-side — not from a review site, but from someone who implements all four for real clients.

At Scale ($97/mo), ThriveCart Academy is priced alongside Circle Professional ($89/mo) and Skool ($99/mo). The comparison is inevitable — here's how to think about the choice.
The native integration between your payments and your community is a genuine advantage — no Zapier connections, no webhook maintenance, no seams between where someone pays and where they access content. If ThriveCart is already at the center of your business, Academy is the natural extension.
Circle has five years of community-first product development that ThriveCart Academy is just starting to build toward. Circle's access groups, workflows, events integration, and overall member experience are more mature. If the community experience is what people are paying for, Circle is the more polished platform.
Skool has a built-in discovery marketplace and a strong community ecosystem around it. If you want to be findable within a platform's network and benefit from the cultural identity of being a Skool creator, that's something ThriveCart Academy doesn't offer.
The questions I get asked most often about ThriveCart, with my real answers.
Yes, with the right expectations. The platform went through a genuinely difficult period after multiple ownership changes, but it has stabilized and the new ownership has invested in meaningful product development — particularly ThriveCart Academy. If your use case fits (e-commerce, funnels, affiliates, simplicity), ThriveCart is a solid choice. I went from not recommending it during the rough patch to recommending it again.
The original full-featured lifetime deal is no longer available at the old pricing. ThriveCart now has three tiers: Standard ($495 one-time), Pro+ ($790 one-time, renews at $295/yr from year two), and Ultimate Bundle ($985 one-time, renews at $295/yr from year two). The one-time fee for the base tiers is still a meaningful advantage compared to monthly SaaS platforms — especially at Pro+ where the year-2 renewal amortizes to roughly $24/month.
ThriveCart Academy is ThriveCart's new community and course delivery platform, launched in 2026. It replaces ThriveCart Learn (which is being deprecated) and adds a full community layer including discussions, events, gamification, and assessments. It's priced separately from the core ThriveCart platform at $37/mo (Starter), $67/mo (Growth), or $97/mo (Scale) billed annually. At Scale, it competes directly with Circle and Skool on price.
ThriveCart Learn and Learn+ are being deprecated — they will not receive further updates or new features. ThriveCart Academy is the replacement. If you bought the Ultimate Bundle specifically for the Learn+ feature, confirm the current status of that transition with ThriveCart directly before purchasing. The long-term status of what Ultimate Bundle customers receive post-deprecation needs to be clarified by ThriveCart.
Standard is more capable than most reviews suggest — it includes unlimited products and funnels, 1-click upsells and downsells, A/B testing, abandon cart recovery, and subscription billing. What it lacks: the affiliate center and JV platform, multiple order bumps, subscription dunning, custom branding and domains, and advanced revenue tools like crypto payments and UTM tracking. The affiliate management is the most common reason to upgrade to Pro+.
No. ThriveCart is a checkout and funnel platform. HighLevel is a full business operating system that includes CRM, email, SMS, funnels, a phone system, reputation management, and much more. ThriveCart handles the e-commerce layer cleanly. HighLevel handles the e-commerce layer plus most of your marketing and sales infrastructure. They can also work together — many people use ThriveCart for checkout and HighLevel for CRM and marketing.
Yes. Stripe is ThriveCart's primary payment processor. Your Stripe account handles the actual payment transactions and money lands in your Stripe account. ThriveCart is built on top of Stripe rather than being its own payment processor — which means your transaction history, customer billing relationships, and subscription data all live in your Stripe account. You own the billing relationships.
Yes. ThriveCart has an embeddable checkout that works on any website including WordPress, and direct integrations with many WordPress plugins. However, ThriveCart is not a WordPress plugin itself — it's a separate SaaS platform that you connect to your WordPress site. If you want a checkout solution that lives natively inside WordPress, SureCart is the more natural fit.
At Scale ($97/mo), ThriveCart Academy and Circle Professional ($89/mo) are priced similarly. Circle has five years of community-first product development and more mature features around community organization, access control, events, and the overall member experience. ThriveCart Academy's advantage is native integration with ThriveCart's checkout and affiliate system. If you're already a ThriveCart customer, Academy is a natural extension. If you're not, Circle is a more mature community platform.

ThriveCart's affiliate management (available on Pro+ and above) is one of its genuine strengths. Setting up an affiliate program, configuring commission structures, generating affiliate links, managing affiliate accounts, and processing payouts via the JV platform is cleaner and more straightforward here than in most alternatives at this price point. It's one of the most common reasons people choose ThriveCart over competing checkout platforms.
